Recently I was talking to a passenger sitting nearby me in a bus. He is a personal driver to a wealthy man.
His simplicity and his employer's generosity reminded me of the school days' Moral Science.
This driver has been working in the same job for the last 23 years. Can you work under the same employer for so many years? The employer's generosity made that happen. The driver's employer takes care of the medical expenses of all his employees. The driver's employer gave one lakh for his daughter's family and some more money without interest.
Nowadays employers make profit from over working the employees and paying them less. But here is a man who shares his wealth with the people who helps him to earn it instead of building one another villa for him alone.
Okay.. now coming to the driver's simplicity. He has led a simple life. In a world where everyone is quarreling over inherited property, he refused the property that was due to him from his father. He lives in a small rented house but he felt that he already had what he needed.
We were also talking about a millionaire family who have made it a custom in their family to just invite the immediate family members for weddings in their family. People spend millions for weddings even by getting loans. Simple weddings are a rarity nowadays.
Nowadays we get mesmerized by the flamboyant ads marketing the costly life. Unaware of the business man's intention to profit from the products sold, we dream of modifying our lifestyle even though we don't need these products. What we all want in life is happiness and not a big house or a grand wedding. And big houses and grand weddings are not the ways to happiness.
We spend much time talking about the grand weddings, treats and the quarrel of sons & daughters over inheritance. And slowly we are forgetting simplicity & sharing...
