I recently visited Sri Rangam, RockFort, Tanjore Big Temple, Thirunagaeswaram and Thirupampuram.
From Karamadai To Trichy:
You can either go to Tirupur or Singanallur and take a Trichy bus. Tirupur seems easier. For Singanallur, you have to take another town bus from Gandhipuram. Buses are available throughout the day.
Sri Rangam by night and Darshan in the early morning:
Plan your travel such that you reach Sri Rangam by night so that you can visit the temple early in the morning after a good night's sleep. There are a lot of hotels and sathirams near Sri Rangam temple starting from Rs. 150 per night. As in the case of most temples, you have places to keep your luggage and foot wears at minimum rates near the temple. So do not leave your belongings in some shop. There are special entries for Rs. 50 and 250.

RockFort Temple:
It will take 15 - 30 mins to climb Rockfort Temple. There is a small Vinayagar temple and another big temple mid way.
Tanjore Big Temple in the afternoon:
Tanjore big temple main statue will be closed from 12:30 to 4:00, however the temple lawn will be opened full day. So plan your travel accordingly. There is a big lawn around the temple. The surrounding area is very spacious so you can stay there for sometime even if there is a huge crowd. Compared to the Sri Rangam temple which is dark & seems crowded, Big Temple is bright and spacious since most of the area is in the open. There are some superstitions with regard to this temple.
Kumbakonam by night and Navagraha Temples in the morning:
Plan to reach Kumbakonam at night or evening and you can visit Thirunagaeswaram which is just 5 kms away form there.
Thirunagaeswaram is a big temple and milk abhishaekham is popular here. There is a big pond near the temple. There is also a small, neat theatre nearby if you would like to unwind.
Thirupampuram is popular for Raghu-Kethu. Parikaram is being done there. Devotees take bath in the nearby lake and leave the angaswasthiram there it self and participate in the pujas conducted by the people there. Charges apply :)
There are many other navagraha temples around Kumbakonam and you can plan your trip by asking the people in the Kumbakonam bus stand. They will help you out with the directions.
I missed Keezhperumpallam temple since I was planning to complete the whole visit in one day. It seems the sea is nearby and I would have loved to visited that place as well.

Timings by bus:
From Singanallur to Trichy : 5 to 6 hours by bus
From Tirchy to Sri Rangam : 10 - 20 mins by bus
From Sri Rangam to RockFort : 15 - 20 mins by bus
From Trichy to Tanjore : 1 hour by bus
From Tanjore to Big temple : 15 - 20 mins by bus
From Big Temple to Kumbakonam : 1 hour by bus
From Kumbakonam to Thirunagaeswaram : 15 - 20 mins by bus
From Kumbakonam to Thirupampuram: 1.5 hours by bus ( Take Karaikkal bus from Kumbakonam, get down at Karkathi bus stop, take an auto to Thirupamburam (3 kms - Rs. 80) ) If you have time, you can walk as weel among the green fields.
